Overview
This individual-contributor role sits within an AI & legal innovation team, designing, building and optimising AI-powered workflows for a legal practice group.
Working closely with the rest of the innovation team, this person focuses on prompt engineering, workflow development, quality assurance and continuous improvement of AI outputs, ensuring accuracy, consistency and alignment with attorney expectations.
Working with innovation attorneys, technology colleagues, knowledge teams and practice-group members, the role turns practice requirements into effective AI workflows and contributes to a shared knowledge culture across the department.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build AI-powered workflows for a legal practice group.
- Develop and maintain prompt-engineering standards, workflow templates and QA protocols for AI tools.
- Contribute to multi-year roadmaps for AI optimisation aligned to firm and practice-group priorities.
- Turn practice requirements into workflow specs, prompt libraries and knowledge repositories.
- Weigh in on workflow priorities, balancing practice needs, feasibility, quality and long-term value.
- Track KPIs, quality metrics and attorney satisfaction to guide iteration.
- Research advances in large language models, prompt engineering and legal AI to spot enhancement opportunities.
- Support pilots and proofs of concept for new workflows, contributing to evaluation and deployment decisions.
- Partner with technology, knowledge management and practice groups on coordinated build, test and deployment.
- Contribute to training and adoption strategies for AI tools.
- Work with AI vendors and internal tech teams to feed back on performance and shape product development.
- Provide regular updates on workflow performance and quality to the manager and stakeholders.
- May represent the firm at industry events on legal AI and innovation.
What we're looking for
- Strong expertise in AI systems and prompt engineering, able to optimise LLM outputs for accuracy and consistency.
- Solid understanding of transactional practice (M&A, finance, capital markets) and how to translate that into AI workflow specs.
- Strong knowledge-engineering skills — prompt libraries, workflow templates, repositories, QA frameworks.
- Able to apply governance frameworks for disciplined build/test/deploy of AI workflows.
- Comfortable working independently within a collaborative team.
- Strong communication skills across attorneys, technologists and administrative staff.
- Able to juggle multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities.
- Technical familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, context-window management and fine-tuning concepts.
- Proficient with core enterprise applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
- Minimum three years in legal technology, knowledge management or legal practice, with AI/prompt-engineering/workflow experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (Law, Computer Science, Information Systems or related).
