Innovation Attorney / Legal Technology Product Lead
Overview
This role acts as product owner for a portfolio of legal-technology platforms, owning everything from discovery and piloting through to launch, adoption and ongoing optimisation. It leads horizon-scanning to identify emerging technology relevant to legal service delivery and keeps a close eye on the legal-tech vendor market.
Working closely with fellow innovation attorneys, the role builds a deep understanding of practice-group workflows and translates that into product vision, roadmaps and prioritisation calls — balancing user needs, firm strategy, technical feasibility and vendor capability to deliver real value to legal teams.
It is a visible, externally facing role that connects the firm to the wider legal-tech ecosystem, working with internal tech teams and outside vendors, and helping non-technical stakeholders understand impact and trade-offs.
Key responsibilities
- Own assigned legal-tech platforms end to end — discovery, piloting, launch, adoption and optimisation.
- Set product vision, roadmap and success metrics aligned to firm strategy and attorney needs.
- Turn practice-group and operations requirements into clear product requirements, user stories and priorities.
- Act as primary decision-maker on scope, sequencing and trade-offs across the product lifecycle.
- Define and track KPIs, adoption metrics and value realisation, using data and feedback to guide investment.
- Run horizon-scanning on emerging legal and adjacent technology, tracking the vendor landscape and market trends.
- Own pilot programmes and proofs of concept — success criteria, requirements, evaluation, testing and go/no-go calls.
- Partner with the technology department on selection, testing, deployment and post-launch optimisation.
- Work with fellow innovation attorneys, internal communications and practice groups on rollout messaging and adoption strategy.
- Lead change management to support successful rollout, with a focus on scale, quality and cost-efficiency.
- Manage vendor relationships as part of active product management, influencing roadmaps and performance.
- Represent the firm externally at conferences, panels and industry events.
- Report regularly to leadership on product performance, technology trends and roadmap direction.
- Deliver attorney-facing presentations and training on product capability and roadmap.
What we're looking for
- Expertise in horizon scanning and market intelligence across legal-tech categories.
- Strong product-management skills — personas, user stories, scoping, requirements, roadmap planning, UI/UX, user testing.
- Strategic project-management skills, including business cases, financial analysis and ROI modelling.
- Skilled in process optimisation and design thinking for scalable, client-centred solutions.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, able to influence senior stakeholders, attorneys and technical teams.
- Able to manage complex, long-running projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong stakeholder-management skills — empathy, diplomacy, and the ability to translate between legal, technical and business audiences.
- Comfortable leading workshops and presenting persuasively to internal and external audiences.
- Proficient with core enterprise applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio).
- Minimum five years’ experience supporting legal technology and innovation.
- Bachelor’s degree (Law, Business, Information Systems or related) and JD required.
